Established in Portland, OR in 1879, Chown Hardware is known for their luxury hardware, plumbing fixtures, and deep knowledge of design. Working on a team with Watson Creative, my role inlcuded writing Chown's case study articles and social media messaging to engage audiences and showcase Chown's excellence, quality, and expertise.

Chown Hardware: Project

"Every great design begins with an even better story." – Lorinda Mamo

At 140 years old, Chown Hardware is rich in stories. Originally established as a traditional hardware store in 1879, Chown has evolved to become a leading supplier of premium interior design fixtures. Chown looked to Watson Creative to develop a content creation and management strategy that would showcase their expertise in quality and design.

Chown carefully selects their products from sources around the world, each with a unique story. I worked with the Watson Creative team to initiate a case study and social media strategy that would tell the story of Chown’s global products.

Each case study featured a different home design project and its unique application of Chown's wares. Using Watson's compiled interviews with designers, architects, and the Chown team, I told the story of these products, from inspiration to transformation.

Tucked into the hills of the historical Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland, OR stands a stunning, 118-year-old English Tudor home, recently transformed with a ceiling-to-floor renovation any homeowner would dream about. The home greets its visitors with a breathtaking staircase, gleaming hardwood floors, and original stained glass windows upon the first step into the foyer. The traditional design of the home is effortlessly merged with modern amenities of 2018, incorporating the highest quality plumbing, lighting, and hardware throughout. Chown Hardware was trusted to provide fixtures on all four floors of the home that both maintained its historical integrity and met the high standards of quality and design for the home’s designer, Emerick Architects.

Imagine waking up every morning to the Seattle skyline in the distance; the hustle and bustle of downtown far away while you peacefully sip your morning coffee. This view is perfectly captured from the bedroom window of a custom Issaquah dream home, which took nearly two years to build from the ground up. The immaculate detail that went into this home demonstrates the talent of Roberts Group, who tailored to the specific needs of the homeowners to create the custom home they dreamed about. Like Chown Hardware, Roberts Group is a family-owned business that has built trust with homeowners over decades of experience.

James and Kricken have designed and remodeled every home they’ve lived in, but this was the first home they designed and built for themselves from the ground up. Having full creative reign was a different experience from client work, and it’s easy to see that they had fun with it. “When you’re your own client, the sky’s the limit in terms of design,” said Kricken. “We really wanted to create something that we could walk into and be incredibly proud of.” They should be, the Vanillawood home is truly a modern masterpiece.
